Our Vision

Welcome to Baltimore.

Baltimore is full of welcoming residents, thriving businesses, and enriching educational opportunities. We celebrate this wonderful mix of people, places, and experiences. To celebrate our rich culture and work toward a just and inclusive future, we also embrace an honest view of our history. The Baltimore Story: Learning & Living Racial Justice is a digital humanities and engagement project, a community-based research project, and an educational resource that serves residents and students in Baltimore City and beyond. The Baltimore Story provides historical information, research opportunities, and learning activities.

The Baltimore Story is a collaborative effort between Baltimore neighborhoods and Loyola University Maryland. To learn more about the history and genesis of this project, read this short reflection from one of the co-directors. Community members work with Loyola faculty members and students to conduct historical and community-based research and complete neighborhood-focused projects that have measurable, positive impacts. The website includes teaching resources for educators interested in teaching Baltimore history from a racially just perspective. We are grateful for a grant from The McCarthey Dressmen Education Foundation, which is allowing us to work with Green Street Academy teachers to create the educational materials hosted on this website.

Other community organizations, such as the York Road Partnership, collaborate with Loyola to complete service-learning projects, as well as historical and community-based research that contribute to Baltimore. We also partner with The Baltimore City Historical Society. Our work with Loyola and Baltimore residents is ongoing, and we continue to add more materials, so stay tuned!
